General Questions

When we hear “custom made” we immediately think expensive or excessive. This is simply not true!
When you want to look great, FIT is everything. Fit is essential to showing off your body and shape in the most flattering way.

When you purchase ready-to-wear clothes, quality isn’t the priority. Most clothes are mass-produced in other countries. The details are not scrutinized by professionals.

Custom-made clothing allows you to choose fabrics and details that blend with your hair, skin tone, and lifestyle, they highlight YOU!

When you are looking through racks and racks of ready-to-wear clothing, many times you simply settle to get the job done. Most people are perpetually short on time. Custom-made is controllable, straightforward, and time-saving. In the end, you get something that is uniquely you, fits you perfectly and will outlast any other garment in craftsmanship and style.

Another benefit of custom-made clothing is ordering extra fabric that can be used for accessories. If you are having a suit made, extra fabric used for the lining can be ordered to create a lovely blouse or scarf. Also, you can carry swatches with you to choose shoes, purses, jewelry, nail color, and more.

Yes, we do! If you are looking for advice regarding the fabric, design, or practicality of investing in an original design, please schedule a consultation. Consultations are for one hour. At this time you will be given all information necessary and advice to help you make your decision.

A deposit must be received at least 5 days prior to the consultation. This non-refundable deposit will be applied towards the actual garment when you sign an agreement with SStyle to create it.

The cost of alterations has nothing to do with the amount of money you paid for the garment, or how old it is. The cost of alterations has to do with the customized fit to your body, that you are looking for, and what that will take.

Let SStyle provide you with an in-person estimate, then make your decision. If you love the garment, look at it as an investment in yourself for something that will make you feel great every time you wear it.

Absolutely! You have invested money and more importantly emotion into this garment whether it is your wedding dress, a bridesmaid’s dress, or a Mother-Of-The-Bride dress. Don’t just let it hang in the closet for the next decade. In some cases, we can adjust the seam allowance on your garment to allow for future changes in your figure. Let’s brainstorm ways for you to wear it.

Here are a few ideas, and you might come up with more. Let’s create accessories like a scarf or wrap from fabric that is cut off and turn the original dress into a stunning cocktail dress. Consider a Christening gown or First Communion Dress for your favorite niece or your future daughter. A stunning Christmas tree skirt with fabric that is cut off, or even a child’s costume – every little girl wants to be a bride or a princess.

One week. Understanding that some clients may need their things sooner, we try to accommodate everyone’s schedule. If it is a more complicated garment, it may take longer which will be discussed with the client at the fitting.

This can be done after seeing the garment(s) in person and determining, with you, exactly what will be necessary to achieve the look you desire.

All alterations require carefully removing old stitches, accurately measuring, and in some cases cutting the fabric. Did you know that 90% of alterations use two to three different stitch types requiring specialty sewing machines, as well as hand stitching and pressing? Specialty machines require three to four spools of thread set up for the color required for the garment. Other factors considered are the type of fabric and the number of layers of linings and more.

Recommendations will be made and a price provided after determining all of the factors mentioned above.

Most people are used to basic alterations found at your local dry cleaner. SStyle provides information, choices, and open communication. You are presented with different alteration possibilities that may not be the “basic” hem shortening. It is always an option if a client does not want to spend the money on all of the pinned fitting changes. Some may be minimal and the client chooses to forego them. The goal is to provide you with all of the visual options and for you to decide what you want to be done. If the estimated price seems high, we welcome feedback and are happy to provide further information as to what variables impact the estimate.
