Working With A Fashion Designer & Alterations Specialist

Meeting with the designer or alterations specialist in person is important. Your vision needs to be conveyed and understood. The project must be defined, the budget determined and the timeline created. These things can only be achieved when there is a connection.

Be sure to ask questions from the beginning and all along the way. Communicating everything about the process and educating our clients on how long we have been in business to where and how we learned this profession is welcomed and encouraged.

Bring your inspiration in the form of photos, fabric swatches, unique buttons, or any inspiration that will help you to share your vision.

How It Works

When you initially reach out to us, we will answer the broad questions you may have about, what you will need to do, how long it takes, and general pricing.

The next step is to schedule a consultation to discuss your project further. When you schedule the consultation a deposit is required that must be received at least 5 days before the consultation. This is a non-refundable deposit, however, it is applied toward the cost of your project when you make the decision to move forward with SSTYLE. You will then receive a confirmation email with the details of how to be prepared for our first in-person meeting. During this consultation, you will have the opportunity to see examples of our work and learn about our skills, education, and training. This is also when a detailed timeline will be created discussing fittings and final alterations.

After you understand the details of the work to be done, the price, and the time frame, you will be asked to sign a written work agreement. This agreement describes every pertinent detail. The agreement must be signed before any work is started. Please make sure you read and understand every aspect of the agreement. Ask questions and make sure your expectations have been clearly defined. At this point, payment is required to schedule your project into our production calendar. Payment in full is required before you pick up the final product to take home.

About Shannon

Sharing a love for fashion, fabric, and clothing design with my mother is something we have had in common for as long as I can remember. My mother has always designed and created fabulous clothes for me, but it was the elaborate costumes she crafted with remarkable attention to detail that has been my inspiration. All of this led to my participation in 4-H. Having my mom as my instructor, sharing her skills, and mentoring my friends and classmates is something that will always be cherished.

Together, we have spent countless hours, in our “War Room”! This is where the garments are first imagined and where they come to life. Some people might consider this a “Play Room” or a “Sewing Room” As a Mother-Daughter team we have found ourselves knee-deep in fabric at the resources she has curated over the years. Collaborating on ideas for the seasons ahead is very special. Designing a future line together is about color, the details, the closures (zippers, buttons, hooks, etc.), and the fabric. A lot goes into creating a garment of timeless beauty.

The final part of any great design is the alterations. This is where the garment will be made to look like it was created for you and only you. Alterations to any ready-to-wear clothes that you purchase or have in your closet are also a large part of what we do.

Whether you choose to call it a War Room, or a Play Room, I look forward to working alongside my mom and collaborating with you!

The goal of SStyle is to design and create custom garments that are tailored to you, your need, and your lifestyle. Attention to detail and quality construction are part of the SStyle brand.
